Kindle 0 : Truck 1

Kindle... ouch!

Don’t…

Leave your Kindle in a friend’s car and then have it meet an unfortunate end before it could make it’s way back to you. I’ll spare you the details but even in it’s protective case Kindle vs. truck wasn’t a very even fight. The screen has certainly seen better days.

What’s interesting is that even though the Kindle was very much toast and non-functional the screen stayed in it’s final state complete with cracks.

Kindle #2 is doing better. If you travel at all then the the Kindle is hard to beat. Kindle #1 made it round the World. Hopefully #2’s life expectancy will be a bit better.

  3. Other helpful advice: if you happen to be a nerd and keep rare earth magnet clusters on your kitchen table, it’s not a good idea to leave your Kindle 2 on the table overnight.

Still works fine, but the E-Ink in the corner that was nearest to the magnet is permanently “torn” and renders as white. Sadly, that’s also the corner with the network, clock, and battery indicators (unless I tell it to rotate the screen).

  4. Still my friend. Mea Culpa. Don’t leave your toys lying around :).

  5. Matt,

Now that’s pretty interesting. In a sad ironic sort of way. I should really find out how the ink thing works. It’s pretty interesting.

  6. So it sounds like you could get some rare earth magnets and then you’ll have an etch-a-sketch.
